This year the Ayuntamiento has announced that over 80 establishments are taking part in the annual gastronomic initiative devised to promote traditional recipes and support local participating

Patrons can look forward to a typical casserole served in a traditional earthenware pot together with a bebida of beer, wine or soft drink for just 2 and gain a passport stamp, which when completed can be handed in to the Tourist Office to receive one of 40 free mystery prizes as well as entry into a free prize draw, while the winning bar or restaurant will win a free advertising campaign for a month on FuengirolaTV.

Review ~ The Picoteo a Magical Gastrobar set in the Secret Square in Fuengirola

08.17
The Picoteo, Fuengirola - I was first introduced to this little jewel over four years ago, since when I have been a regular whether just for a glass of wine and some gastro tapas or a sumptuous lunch this is one of my true favourites.

"A Magical Gastrobar set in the Secret Square"

Set in the Plaza de Chinorros literally behind the central post office (Correos) in the heart of Fuengirola the Gastro Taberna Picoteo offers superb food at realistic prices and always friendly but efficient service and alongside myself is a firm favourite with locals and a good following of tourists.

For me there are two spectacular dishes, the Kokotxas de Bacalao al Pil Pil beautifully prepared and presented Cod Cheeks Pil PIl style just sublime and the Corte de Cochinill Tostada Peras Salteadas A slow roasted Sucking pig served with Sauted Pears however I am happy to recommend the entire menu which I cant say very often as I simply have never had a bad meal there.

Produce shortages forecast to last until April at least

Unusually adverse weather conditions across Europe have had a negative effect on fresh produce depleting harvests in south east Spain with shortages forecast to last until April at least according to FEPEX the Spanish Exporters Federation of Fruit, Flowers & Vegetables.

"Shortages forecast to last until April at least"

The inclement winter has seen a catastrophic combination of drought, heavy rain and flooding and snow and frost and the effect has not just been reported in Spain with Italy and Greece suffering similar conditions.

Recommendation ~ The taste of Mlaga in Benahavis at the Escuela de Hosteleria

23.21
True foodies really need to pay a visit to the Escuela de Hostelera in Benahavis. The school is noted because of the sheer attention to detail displayed by the teachers and students alike and its fantastic position and spectacular views, situated as it is between the coast and the mountains.

"The menu is the essence of seasonality"

The menu is the essence of seasonality, with the master menu changing at least 3 times per school year, with the majority of the products used, sourced direct from Mlaga as a result of their link    with the Sabor a Mlaga project initiated by the provincial government.
In addition to the la carte, the restaurant offers both wine -pairing and two tasting menus daily priced at between 32 & 38 and those visiting on either a Monday or Wednesday can take advantage of a discounted rate of 28 however, you will need to book well in advance to take advantage of these days! A Malaga Food Guide Ranking of 8.5/10 Highly Recommended!

Recommendation ~ The Four Wise Men of Mlaga March Onwards & Upwards

05.02
It is over 12 months since we first reported on the Spain Food SherpasThe Four Wise Men of Mlaga, four guys with completely different backgrounds who launched their concept to guide visitors around the beautiful Mlaga food markets and the artisan food and grocery shops before moving on to restaurants where their guests are taught traditional recipes and learn to cook Spanish favourites including the omnipresent gazpacho & paella.

Review ~ El Muelle de Arriate @MalagaFoodie Upgrades his favourite eatery from 8-9/10!

04.43
El Muelle de Arriate 9.0/10 - We indulged our Guest Writer MalagaFoodie  to a pre- Christmas visit to what he says is one of his favourite eateries in Mlaga province and he upgrades it's rating a full point from 8 to 9/10 - Praise Indeed!

? Exciting, Vibrant Menu & Superb Value for Money?
As the Editor quite righly states this is indeed one of my favourite eateries in the whole of Mlaga Province. Host/Owner Frank is just one of the best and Chef Isa delivers her own special twist on a vibrant and always seasonal menu celebrating the rich tapestry of our fabulous local produce.

The entire menu is novel and exciting although I am a stickler for two old favourites which I highly recommend to all and usually foist upon any guests that are lucky enough to be invited, Queso de cabra con mermelada de mango as a starter and the amazing Solomillo de cerdo con manzana foie y salsa de tinto as a main course, however my last visit saw a dramatic detour sampling one of the latest additions to the menu, Grilled Scallop and Prawn salad with a Mustard Vinaigrette, just heavenly - while my table neighbours indulged in the Sucking Pig  - while I really cant repeat their comments except to say that is was amazing! Exciting, Vibrant Menu & Superb Value for Money. A deserved upgrade from 8 -9/10 from me!
